Dr.D.Veerendra Heggade

Dharmaadhikari of Dharmasthala, Social Reformer, Educationist, Philosopher and Philanthropist, Dr. D Veerendra Heggade is a multidimensional personality. In recognition of his services to the nation, he has been awarded the second highest civilian award of the country, Padma Vibhushana by the President of India. He is also the Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha from 2022.

About the College

SDM College, Ujire, is an autonomous institution affiliated with Mangalore University. Established in 1966, the college offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes on a serene campus nestled at the foothills of the Western Ghats in Karnataka, India. Accredited with an A++ Grade by NAAC on a seven-point scale in its Fourth Cycle, the college stands out for its academic excellence. It is also a recognized research center for Mangalore University and Kannada University, Hampi. The institution is managed by the SDM Educational Society and guided by the visionary leadership of Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala.

The institution is known for its unique initiatives that range from cultural to sports. SDM constantly adopts novelty and reinvents itself to incorporate the best educational standards, including early implementation of NEP and introduction of professional courses.

Arboretum

The arboretum is a unique feature of SDMC Ujire, established in 1999 with an objective of conservation and documentation of diversity of flora with reference to Western Ghats of India. It is a botanical garden expanding over eight acres of land. More than 500 species of medicinal plants are conserved here, making way for R&D and extension activities in the field.

Online Exams

The process of conducting online internal exams for undergraduate and postgraduate students was introduced at SDM 8 years ago in 2010. Generally, the second internal exams of every semester are conducted online and the results are generated instantly after the completion of the test.
