Department of Social Work

Established in 2001

The department was established in the year 2001 with the vision plan ´ACADEMIC UPGRADATION AND IMPROVING THE EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS OF STUDENTS WITH HUMAN TOUCH”. The department works with the objective of projecting students around quality based education and imparting professional Social Work education with a participative and holistic approach for the betterment of the society. MSW Course in a locality like Ujire is more appropriate for the practical learning of the theories, principles, methods and values of Social Work because providing avenues for experiential learning to enhance social awareness and sensitivity towards social issues itself is the goal of Social Work Education. It also focuses on pioneering approach and professional practice of Social Work throughout the course of action.

Special activities conducted by the department include yearly Mega event SAMBHRAMA which is a national level conference focusing on contemporary issues, Study Tours, Social Work rural/tribal camps, Summer and Winter internships. Focused Group Discussions, Article Reviews, Seminars, Role Plays, Movie Reviews, Value Education and other need based activities. The department enriches the students by encouraging research activities so as to craft specialists and professional leaders in the fields of Social Work. The program is underpinned by rapport and networking with government and nongovernment organizations to empower the budding professionals by facilitating competence building, policy and program development and expansion of wide-ranging scope.

Highlights of the Department

  • Department of Post-Graduation in Social Work, SDM College, Ujire focus on pioneering approach and professional practice of Social Work throughout the course of action. The major strategies are practice based research and field action projects.
  • Rapport and net working with government and nongovernment organizations empower the budding professionals. It facilitates competence building, policy and program development and expansion.

Promoting the Importance of Human Relationships: This theme was established to build international focus on the interdependence of people and the need for change in policies and social service delivery.

Students impart managerial skills through the student run forum Human Resource Development Cell which conducts various issue based programs for student benefits. The association arranges activities like Guest lectures, Workshops, Special talks during National and International days, extension activities and any other contemporary issues which will be relevant to students’ career and social development.
