Unique FeaturesBeekeeping
SDM English Medium School, Dharmasthala has been successfully running an apiculture (beekeeping) programme on its campus for the past six years, combining environmental education with experiential learning and social responsibility. As part of the initiative, the school has 11 beehive boxes, which are carefully maintained within the campus. Initially started with the donation of two bee boxes by Baabu MK, apiculturist and parent of the school. The programme is guided and supervised by the Headmistress, Mrs. Parimala M V, who personally oversees crucial activities such as division of bee colonies, maintenance of the hives, and other apiculture-related processes to ensure scientific and sustainable practices. The co supporter of apiculture is Mrs Geetha, Mrs Nalini the bus conductor and Ayah of the school attended a year course of bee keeping. Around 30 kg of pure honey is harvested annually from the school's beekeeping unit. This naturally produced honey is thoughtfully presented as a unique and eco-friendly memento to the distinguished guests invited to school functions and special events.
