The Department of Postgraduate Studies and Research in Chemistry successfully organized a special orientation programme titled \u201cPG Chemistry Open Day\u20132026\u201d<\/strong> for B.Sc. students on 09 January 2026<\/strong>. The programme was designed to familiarize prospective postgraduate students with the academic environment, infrastructure, and research opportunities available in the department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Nefisath P.<\/strong>, Associate Professor, delivered an informative session highlighting the department\u2019s academic achievements, research contributions, faculty expertise, and infrastructure. She also provided a detailed explanation of the postgraduate course structure, curriculum framework, evaluation pattern, and the scope for interdisciplinary learning, enabling students to gain a clear understanding of the programme outcomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Shashiprabha<\/strong>, Assistant Professor, addressed the gathering by elaborating on the wide range of career opportunities available after completing post-graduation in Chemistry<\/strong>. She discussed prospects in research and development, pharmaceuticals, chemical industries, analytical laboratories, academia, competitive examinations, and higher studies, thereby motivating students to pursue postgraduate education with confidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The programme was presided over by Dr. Sowmya B. P.<\/strong>, Dean of PG studies and HoD of PG studies and research in chemistry. In her presidential remarks, she emphasized about the postgraduate programmes offered at the PG Centre and highlighted the academic strengths of each department. She elaborated on the curriculum design, scholarships, interdisciplinary learning opportunities, and research-oriented approach adopted across the programmes. She also explained the prospects and career pathways associated with various courses, encouraging students to make informed choices based on their interests and career goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the session, the students visited the Organic, Inorganic, Physical, Instrumentation, and Research laboratories<\/strong>, gaining firsthand exposure to the department\u2019s facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A total of 58 B.Sc. students<\/strong> actively participated in the programme. Dr. Narayana Hebbar<\/strong> coordinated the entire event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
