The documentary film ‘Gathavaibhava’ about the handloom sarees of Kasaragod, produced by the students of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of Sri DharmasthalaManjunatheshwar Postgraduate Center, Ujira, won the ‘Best Documentary Award’ at the ‘Paridrishya’ International Short Film and Documentary Film Festival held in Bangalore.A total of 150 films from 10 countries participated in the amateur and professional categories in this film festival which was held on February 11 and 12 in collaboration with ‘Mysore Cinema Society’ and ‘Bharatiya Chitra Sadhana’ at ‘Suchitra Cinema and Cultural Academy’, among them ‘Gatha Vaibhava’ in the documentary (amateur) category. ‘ won the award.In this documentary, the Kasaragodu saree itself was portrayed as telling the story of its ‘past glory’ in this documentary, which was made with the weavers and their daily routines, learning the history of the endangered ‘Kasargodu saree’, a giant thread of Indian handloom heritage.The documentary was produced by students Ram Mohan Bhatt H. (Lyrics, Direction) and Sampath Kumar Rai (Photography) brought out, S.D.M. Rakshit Rai, Director-Video Productions, Multimedia Studio, assisted in editing. S.D.M.
