State Level Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights and Promotion of Innovations<\/strong><\/p>\n

PG Department of Chemistry organized one day State Level Workshop on \u2018Intellectual Property Rights and Promotion of Innovations\u2019, sponsored by Karnataka Science and Technology Academy (KSTA), Bengaluru on 19 July 2022. The resource persons for the workshop were Dr. H L Narendra Bhatta, Founder, Intellocopia IP Services, Rajajinagara, Bengaluruand Dr. PuroshothamaChippar, Professor and HeadDepartment of Mechanical Engineering, St.Joseph Engineering College, Mangaluru. During the inaugural function, Dr. Vishwanatha P, Dean PG Studies and Head, PG Department of Chemistry welcomed the gathering and Dr.Satheeshchnadra S, Secretary, SDME Society\u00ae, Ujire inaugurated the workshop. Promotion of innovations and safeguarding the inventions is the need of the hour, said, Dr. Satheeshchandra in his inaugural speech. Intellectual property rights and innovations are two faces of a coin and are important for a sustainable development, he added.The chief guest of the function was Dr. H L Narendra Bhatta.In the preview of sustainable growth, inventions and innovations play an important role, he said in his keynote address. He also spoke on patents, trademarks, copyrightsand their commercial importance.<\/p>\n

Presiding over the function Dr. P N Udayachnadra, Principal, SDM College, felt that, we should go deep into the research and outcome of the research should be made available to the society for the better benefits through IPR. The inaugural session was ended by proposing vote of thanks by Dr.Shashiprabha, Convener &Assistant Professor, PG Department of Chemistry. Dr. Nefisath P., Assistant Professor, PG Department of Chemistry was the master of ceremony.<\/p>\n

The technical sessions consisted of three invited lectures and Dr. Nefisath P chaired the sessions. The firsttechnical session was by Dr. H L Narendra Bhatta on \u201cHarnessing Innovations in an Academic Environment\u201d. The people involved in inventions and innovations should also focus on getting societal\/commercial benefits out of it, he told. By utilizing the creative minds if everyone involves in innovations, lot job opportunities will be created and commercially also it be beneficial, he added.
\n The second session was by Dr. PuroshothamaChippar, Professor and HeadDepartment of Mechanical Engineering, St.Joseph Engineering College, Mangaluru. He spoke on the topic \u201cOverview of Patents and how to conduct patentability search\u201d. He discussed on the patents and various search engines available to search inventions and how to check the inventions are patentable or not.
\n The third session was on \u201cHand on experience on Prior art search\u201d by Dr. PuroshothamaChippar. The session was on the demonstration of search engines for innovations and patentability<\/p>\n

The Workshop was concluded with a valedictory address by Dr. PuroshothamaChippar and Dr.A K Jayakumar Shetty, Vice Principal, SDM College, Ujire made the presidential remark.
