{"id":11241,"date":"2020-02-05T05:12:46","date_gmt":"2020-02-05T05:12:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sdmcujire.in\/?p=11241"},"modified":"2020-02-05T05:12:46","modified_gmt":"2020-02-05T05:12:46","slug":"chemical-safety-for-a-safe-chemistry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/demo.sdmesociety.in\/sdmc\/chemical-safety-for-a-safe-chemistry\/","title":{"rendered":"Chemical Safety  for a  Safe Chemistry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On 4<sup>th<\/sup> February 2020, the department of Chemistry organized a lecture cum demonstration on \u201cChemical Safety &#8211; Safe Chemistry\u201d by Mr.Jagadisha Bhat, Manager and Head, Department of Environment Health and Safety, Solara Active Pharma Sciences, Mangaluru.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Bhat spoke on the safety and basic principles of accident prevention. \u201cIn practice no job is free from danger. Safety is acceptable risk. Safety depends on what you think about it, what you know about it and what you do about it\u201d he said.\u00a0 According to him, safety can be achieved by \u2018Right attitude\u2019, \u2018Correct Knowledge &amp; Skill\u2019 and \u2018Prompt Action\u2019. He demonstrated Chemical safety-\u00a0the practice of minimizing risk of exposure to\u00a0chemicals\u00a0in any environment through videos. He advised the students to wear gloves, masks and aprons in the laboratory and to <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-11244 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sdmcujire.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/IMG-20200205-WA0040-300x132.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"132\" srcset=\"https:\/\/demo.sdmesociety.in\/sdmc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/IMG-20200205-WA0040-300x132.jpg 300w, https:\/\/demo.sdmesociety.in\/sdmc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/IMG-20200205-WA0040-768x338.jpg 768w, https:\/\/demo.sdmesociety.in\/sdmc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/IMG-20200205-WA0040-1024x450.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/demo.sdmesociety.in\/sdmc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/IMG-20200205-WA0040.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>follow safety measures. \u201cDeveloping a safety culture by establishing and maintaining a sound\u00a0chemical safety\u00a0policy not only saves human lives and protects the environment but also avoids fines and penalties\u201d he said. About 250 students of Chemistry were benefitted by programme. Dr.Vishwanatha P, Head of the Department presided over the function.
