The National Service Scheme (NSS) units of SDM College, Ujire, held their annual activity valedictory ceremony on April 1.
Dr. B.A. Kumar Hegde, former principal and senior NSS program officer, addressed the volunteers as the chief guest, stating that NSS provides an excellent platform for students to engage in service. “You all have gained valuable experiences before completing your degree, which is something to take pride in,” he remarked.
Vice Principal Nanda Kumari K.P. presided over the event and expressed appreciation for the NSS unit’s initiatives, calling it one of the college’s proudest achievements. NSS Program Officer Dr. Mahesh Kumar Shetty H. delivered the welcome address and highlighted the unit’s accomplishments. He mentioned that their participation in the ‘Badhuku Kattona Banni’ team’s paddy plantation drive earned a place in the Golden Book of World Records. Additionally, the unit successfully organized a blood donation drive, collecting over 500 units.
Volunteers who secured the runner-up prize in ‘Srujana 2025,’ a one-day competition at Canara College, Mangaluru, and Sharanna, who represented SDM College and Mangalore University at the state-level Youth Festival in Mysore, were honored. Volunteer Vamshi welcomed the gathering, Varsha V. compered the event, and NSS Program Officer Deepa R.P. delivered the vote of thanks.
