A one-day national-level workshop on Sanskrit drama, Sanskritanātakānāṁ Samīkṣaṇam, was organized by the Sanskrit Department of SDM College, Ujire.

Inaugurating the event, SDM Educational Society’s Academic Coordinator S.N. Kakatkar emphasized that Sanskrit is the root of all languages and that Sanskrit dramas have significantly influenced theatrical traditions across various languages. Guest speaker Gayatri Bharadwaj from Rishivatika Gurukula, Andhra Pradesh, addressed the gathering, stating, “Many perceive Sanskrit as difficult, but with genuine interest, one can find it enjoyable and easy to learn. Sanskrit also offers vast opportunities.”

Presiding over the event, Dr. Prasanna Kumar Aithal, Sanskrit lecturer at Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Pre-University College, Ujire, highlighted that dramas are not just for entertainment but serve as valuable tools for religious and philosophical reflections. The workshop featured sessions by resource persons Dr. Venkatesh M. Giri, retired principal of Government First Grade College, Karwar, and Dr. Venkataramana Bhat, lecturer at the Central Sanskrit University, Sringeri.

Head of the Sanskrit Department, Dr. Sridhar N. Bhat, welcomed the gathering, while Vaidehi and her team led the prayers. Dharitri Bhide and Sinchana Palande compered the event. As a special highlight, students from the Central Sanskrit University, Sringeri, presented a Sanskrit adaptation of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, titled Vāsantika Svapnam.
