The Department of PG Studies and Research in Physics, in association with the R&D Cell are jointly organising a National Conference titled “Bridging the Many Phases of Matter” NCBMPM 2025 at SDM PG Centre on 14th and 15th March, 2025. The Inaugural Session on Day 1 was attended by Hon. Secretary of SDMES (R.) Dr. Satheeshchandra S. as the Inaugurator, Dr. C. V. Yelamaggad (Scientist and Professor, CeNS, Bengaluru) was the Chief Guest and keynote speaker, Dr. Vishwanatha P. (Hon. Principal, SDMCU) was the President and Sri. S. N. Kakathkar was the guest of honour. Also present were Dr. Sridhar Bhat (Professor of Sanskrit & Registrar, SDMCU), members of the Organising Committee for the Conference, staff and students from Physics, Chemistry and Biotechnology as well as participants from various universities and colleges. Dr. Sowmya B. P. (Director of R&D Cell) and Dr. Raghavendra S. (Associate Professor, Dept. of PG Studies in Physics) were the Conveners; Dr. Sahana K. (Dept. of PG Studies in Physics), Dr. Prarthana J. (Head, Dept. Of PG Studies in Biotechnology) and Dr. Shashiprabha (Asst. Prof., Dept. of PG Chemistry) were the Co Converers; Ms. Sowmya K. and Dr. D. Haleshappa (Dept. of PG Physics) were Organising Secretaries.

Inauguration was followed by release of the Book of Abstracts and keynote address by Dr. C. V. Yelamaggad who spoke on the topic “Staying Hidden: Practical Ways to be Invisible” where he spoke about recent research on stealth and invisibility technology, meta materials and related concepts. Following his lecture, technical sessions by Dr. Vinaya Kumar K. B. from BITS Pilani, Goa (Topic: Polymer piezoelectret for Self-Powered Wearable Sensing), Dr. Aravinda S. from IIT Tirupati (Topic: Foundations of quantum computational advantage) and Dr. Arnab Datta from Yenepoya Research Centre, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), Mangalore (Topic: Preventing Stroke through Cerebroprotective Dietary Flavonoid) were held. The day ended with Oral and Poster presentations from the participants, followed by colourful and highly entertaining cultural events from Science Department students of SDM PG Centre. About 120 participants from host and sister institutions, various college students, researchers and faculty from (and across) the state attended the Conference and benefited greatly from this event. Dr. Sowmya B. P. welcomed the gathering while Dr. Raghavendra S. proposed vote of thanks. Dr. Nefisath P, Associate Professor, Department of PG Studies and Research in Chemistry narrated the programme.  The day was also memorable since it is the birthday of the famous Physicist Albert Einstein and is also the World Pi Day!
