Established in 1966

The department has been engaged in imparting quality education with strong base in laboratory experiments. It offers Chemistry as an optional subject for the undergraduate students. Material Chemistry, Corrosion Inhibition Studies, Nano Chemistry and Synthetic Organic Chemistry are the thrust areas of research. The department ensures ample placement opportunities and is constantly associated with its alumni in both academia and industry.

The Department is recognized under Star College Scheme of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, for improving critical thinking and ‘hands on’ experimental work in Chemistry at undergraduate level.

The Department has functional MoU with Srinivas University with the intention of building capabilities of staff and students through skill development programmes and research collaboration in the areas of Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Material Chemistry, Corrosion Studies and deposition techniques. The MoU also intends to enhance Research and Academic standards by mutual lab visits for staff and students for specific subject related programmes.

The department focuses on the overall development of the student by organizing programmes related to both curricular and co-curricular aspects as given here.

• Instils leadership qualities among the students through student centric activities organized under the Departmental association  ‘Spatika’
• With an additional grant of Rs. 20 Lakhs by DBT, Govt of India, under Star College Scheme, Department organises soft and analytical skill enhancing chemistry programs
• Organizes Guest Lectures, Conferences,  Webinars by renowned speakers to keep them updated on the latest developments in the field
• Organizes Career guidance and Alumni interactions by providing a platform for the proud alumni of the college to interact with the student community for exchanging the academic and corporate experiences.
• Organizes Workshops to provide hands on experience
• Encourages Students to take up Internships and organizes Field Visits to Chemical /Pharmaceutical industries for exposure on instrumentation in QC and R& D
• Provides Community Service through  ‘Soil Testing Centre’ which undertakes testing of Soil and Water quality parameters
• Organises Extension activities and programmes related to popularising chemistry, awareness programme on food adulteration, water conservation and no usage of plastics
• Faculty of the department guide students in Student Research projects and to take up Summer Research Fellowships
• There is scope for Post-graduation and Research activities in Chemistry and Organic chemistry in the campus itself
