Manjusha Box

Manjusha Box

When Manjusha Museum was in its early days of conception, our revered founder Shri D. Veerendra Heggade, along with his trusted team of visionary men deliberated deeply on what to name this space that would house the rich cultural and historical legacy of this land. To find the perfect name, they turned to none other than Kuvempu, the legendary Kannada writer and thinker. It was Kuvempu who suggested the name “Manjusha” – a Sanskrit word meaning a box or casket of treasures. In a remarkable twist of fate, it was at that very moment that artist Thippeswamy, the museum’s first Curator, beamed with quiet pride and remarked, “We already have a Manjusha box in our collection.”

This is the Manjusha Box, a beautifully crafted traditional container, once used for storing sacred objects, jewels and valuable documents. This exquisite box, with its intricate design and craftsmanship captured the imagination of the museum’s founder. It stood as a perfect metaphor for what the museum aspires to be – a vessel of heritage, preserving the cultural, artistic and historical treasures of the region. Just as the Manjusha Box safeguards priceless items within its walls, so too does the museum protect and showcase the rich legacy of the past.

Thus, the Manjusha Box transcended its role as a mere artefact, evolving into the very muse that inspired the museum’s name – a poetic homage to the noble pursuit of preserving and venerating our shared cultural legacy.
